about kristin

My somatic practice is shaped by 25+ years of professional and creative endeavors, spiritual practice and therapeutic explorations in traditional and alternative modalities.

I come to this work as a biracial (black/white) cisgender woman, the product of the first generation of fully legal interracial marriages in the US. This informed the coping strategies I relied on to navigate our complex world and inspired a life-long healing journey of self-study in identity shaping, authentic self-expression and mindfulness. My work in DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) revealed the difficulties in individual and organizational change and why “good ideas” aren’t sufficient in offering sustainable paths of transformation. Somatics explained why and offered a tangible, impactful alternative.

Body-mind and somatic practices helped me realize, witness and integrate aspects of myself that were unconsciously keeping us stuck in cycles of abandoning my dignity. As I began to rely less on the intellect and more on my felt sense, my reactive habit patterns stopped driving my life. I continue to feel more at home in my body, more present, and in choice and alignment about how I express my aliveness and how to be in greater harmony with others. This is what I want for my clients and for our world.

I bring these longings and learnings to my client work as a Strozzi trained certified somatic coach and bodyworker, and an informed practitioner of the Internal Family Systems®, with a background in DEI learning, organizational change, social services and the arts.

I’m based in Portland, Oregon and am in the process of establishing a presence in Brooklyn, NY. I see clients virtually and in person, domestically and internationally.

When I’m not focused on work, I’m usually in the Willamette National Forest or hanging with friends in Brooklyn NY or making soup.

testimonials

“What can I say? This process with Kristin was absolutely life-changing! I have had a lot of talk therapy in my life, and bringing my body into therapy through somatics and IFS was profound. The key is practice and something just happens and transforms. I feel more connected, integrated and alive! Highly recommended! Thank you for your care, professionalism and wisdom Kristin.”

“My sessions with Kristin were amazing and provocative. Each hour I spent with her had the impact of weeks of talk therapy — often leaving me tearful yet more holistically connected to all versions of myself. Her toolkit is varied and vast, pulling from embodiment work and other modalities to evoke deep revelations and releases, contributing deeply to my goal of wanting to regroup and recenter amid a huge life crisis. I highly recommend her.”
